Seminar on Human Rights Standards and Communication Rights

Freedom of expression and the right to information are closely linked with the exercise of Human Rights. This seminar will highlight experiences in the local use of global or regional human rights standards by community radio and civil society organizations and how can commonalities be found in the exercise of freedom of expression. It will allow for knowledge exchange between practitioners in Latin America, Africa and Asia Pacific.

Seminar on the Impact Evaluation of Community Radio and Social Movements

This seminar, organized by AMARC, will present the results of the AMARC global evaluation process on the social impact of community radio as well as results of the 9th World Conference of Community Radio Broadcasters that was held in Amman, Jordan in November 2006. It is intended to reinforce awareness in the civil society world movement concerning the importance of communications in development and of community radio in particular in advancing in development objectives and in the struggle for a better world. It will count on the participation of key partners from the Building Communication Opportunities partnership.

Seminar on Women and Governance Challenges

Seminar on gender sensitive programming

This seminar will consist on an interactive discussion with facilitators on the key aspects to consider in gender friendly programming in the media. It will analyze stereotypes in traditional media and their role; the feminist approach to media and explore experiences on how gender sensible programming are working.

Communications Forum “Globalization, communication rights, democracy and social movements”

The communications forum will consist in three roundtables with communications organizations and networks on the themes of globalization, communication rights and on democracy and social movements. It is important to highlight the community radio movement as a factor in the development of local communities and also as part of a large social movement.

Media development of the press, radio and tv and their convergence with telecommunications and new information technologies characterize contemporary societies both at the political and economic system level as well as in everyday life.
